About Childrens Triathlon in the South West
Introduction
Getting started in the world of triathlon can appear to be complicated. The British Triathlon Federation (BTF) has plenty of advice, assistance and a whole bundle of benefits to get you going.
Triathlon has come a long way since its beginnings in 1974 when a group of friends began to train together. The group consisted of swimmers, cyclists and runners, and before long they were organising competitions combining the three sports.
Triathlon is an exciting multi-discipline sport involving a continuous race over various distances in the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running. A standard triathlon is made up of a swim, followed by a cycle ride, followed by a run.

The South West Region
The SW Region has a great nucleus of talent. Races are well supported with the majority of events seeing in excess of over 90 athletes. Even at the start of our season here in the SW last year in February 2011 we saw 115 at Castle Coombe for our Championship duathlon race. Our Junior category has benefited from the series and sees regular head to head races with large competitive base. We also see a number of visitors from our neighbouring regions which is great to see. So welcome one and all.
Season
The Triathlon season in the South West runs from end of February to September. Associated sports include the non Olympic disciplines of Duathlon; (run, bike, run) and Aquathlon; (Swim, Run)
